Vanderbilt Professor Anita Mahadevan-Jansen and her group named a Finalist for 2019 R&D 100 Awards

A technology developed by Vanderbilt Professor Anita Mahadevan-Jansen and her group, in partnership with med device company Ai Biomed, has been selected as a Finalist for the 2019 R&D 100 Awards. The award honors 100 top innovations of the prior year, as selected by a panel of expert judges, and is in its 57th year of recognizing great R&D pioneers and their revolutionary technologies.

The innovative device they developed is a handheld system, called PTeye, that enables safe, rapid localization of parathyroid tissue intraoperatively using optical imaging techniques. The novel device has been tested and approved for clinical use by the FDA, resulting in highly efficient and accurate parathyroid detection during surgery.

The R&D 100 Awards have served as the most prestigious innovation awards program for the past 56 years, honoring great R&D pioneers and their revolutionary ideas in science and technology. The R&D 100 Conference was launched in 2015 as an educational event that celebrated the historic R&D 100 Awards and provided a new, in-depth conference that brings together the unique opportunities for R&D professionals to learn, network and collaborate.
